Food Safety in Catering
The Level 1 Awards in Food Safety have been developed to ensure that employees from all food sectors are equipped with a basic knowledge of food safety to enable them to produce safe food.
The qualifications will suit a diverse group of students including those from large multinational companies to small and medium enterprises. Candidates could also use the qualifications as part of relevant courses being taken in schools and colleges and will suit all levels of literacy skills.
This qualification also focuses on the importance of food safety in the catering and hospitality sectors and provides food handlers with the knowledge of how they can contribute to product safety. Before starting work for the first time food handlers need to be aware of the hazards and controls associated with food in catering operations.
The importance of good personal hygiene, cleaning, waste management and recognising and reporting signs of pests are also stressed.
The course syllabus covers the following topics:
- An introduction to Food Safety and Hazards
- Microbiological Hazards (multiplication and survival) and Controls
- Contamination Hazards and Controls
- Personal Hygiene
- Cleaning and Disinfection
On achieving this Award candidates will be equipped with the knowledge to enable them to provide safe food and will assist the business to comply with the law.
Guided learning hours for this qualification are 3 hours depending upon the mode of study and training needs of candidates, assessment is multiple choice.
