SOVA (Safeguarding Adults)

Guidelines and procedures are designed to give all care workers an increased awareness and recognition of the issues surrounding the abuse and mistreatment of vulnerable adults. This course has been designed to give care workers a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities with regard to Abuse and Neglect. The course involves group work, theory and personal reflections, work books and handout are issued to all candidates.

The course covers the following topics:-

  • Definitions
  • Categories of abuse
  • Who is the Abuser?
  • Who is the victim?
  • Signs and symptoms
  • Sharing information
  • Confidentiality
  • Mental capacity act
  • Role of the carer
  • Inter agency working
  • Law
  • Useful contact numbers, addresses and websites

The duration of the course is 3 hours however; this can be extended to 6 hours depending on the sensitivity of the topics covered.
